Home based businesses – the parents are there with their children, preventing crime, drugs and gangs whilst providing for the family.

CREATING FUTURES AND SELF SUSTAINABILITY

We form core groups of graduated students, obtaining work contracts for them such as CMT work for the graduated sewers, woodwork contracts for the graduated carpenters, and so on. These core groups also produce their own work, which we market on their behalf through the internet, fairs, exhibitions, corporate gifting requests and various markets. Small businesses are started and run through the centre, creating permanent jobs for the community.

MANAGEMENT TEAM

Nina Venjakob, Founder and CEO. Her passion is to create jobs, build futures and to establish small businesses.  She established Dreams in 1989, Ditoro in 1992 and Out of the Box in 2005.  Out of the Box works with 112 Squatter Camps and Townships at present.    ‘We teach skills to people who have given up hope and help them to run a small business from home, so that they are with their families and keep their children off the streets – away from gangs and drugs.   We also teach computer skills, office readiness and business admin to school-leavers (and adults) so that they will be better equipped to seek employment’.

Lin Insel joined Out of the Box in January 2015 on a fulltime basis as Admin and Finance Manager and has also been appointed as a Director.   Lin has been teaching sewing at the centre since its inception in 2005, and continues to do so along with her other duties.   Lin has had many years’ experience in the corporate admin and financial sectors and she also ran her own dressmaking business for 10 years.
